Rules and Regulations
*Please note that two new classes
have been added
As in the past several
years, fleeces may be entered into competition and placed for sale,
or entered into competition only. There is a limit of 2 fleeces per
class per farm or family up to a total of 8 fleeces
per farm or family. The Massachusetts Sheep and Woolcraft
Fair will act as broker for the fleece sale and a 10% commission will
be collected by the fair at the time of the sale.
Please pre-enter fleeces
by filling out a general entry blank and mailing it by May
16th to the address given.
Entry fees are $3 per fleece,
late entries will be $6 per fleece to encourage pre-entry.
Fleeces must be unwashed
but clean and well-skirted and placed in clear plastic bags, 1 fleece
per bag. Fleeces must have been shorn in the last 12 months. Unskirted,
dirty fleeces will be disqualified. Each fleece should be tagged with
a 3X5 card folded in half. On the outside of the card list: class,
sheep breed (if known), weight and sale price per pound (if fleece
is for sale). The inside of the card should list exhibitor/seller’s
name, address, phone number and email if desired.
Fleeces may be brought
to the exhibit hall between 7:00 – 9:00 pm Friday night, or
7:30 – 9:30 am on Saturday. At that time we will check your
weights and enter any late entries. Judging will be done from 9:30
– 12:00 on Saturday, with ribbons awarded to 3 places. Trophies
will be awarded for the Grand Champion and Reserve Champion fleeces.
Please note that premiums
will be paid on a point basis to Massachusetts residents only.
The sale will occur
from 2:00 – 5:00 pm Saturday and 9:00am – 3:00 pm Sunday.
A member of the committee will be in charge of the sale during that
time. Fleeces will be removed from the sale upon purchase. We will
make every effort to remove ribbons for producers as fleeces are sold.
Any unsold fleeces must
be picked up by the producer between 3:00 – 4:00 on Sunday.
MSWF is not responsible for unclaimed fleeces. Checks will be mailed
for the sale price as well as any premium money at a reasonable date
after the fair.
