Fleece Show

The Massachusetts Fleece Show Rules and Regulations
As in the past several years, fleeces may be entered into competition and placed for sale or entered into competition only. There is a limit of two fleeces per class per farm or family up to a total of eight fleeces per farm or family. The Massachusetts Sheep and Woolcraft Fair will act as a broker for the fleece sale and a 10% commission will be collected by the fair at the time of sale.

Please pre-enter fleeces by filling out a general entry blank and mailing it by May 14th to the address given. Entry fees are $3 per fleece; late entries will be $6 per fleece to encourage pre-entry. Fleeces must be unwashed, but clean and well-skirted and placed in clear plastic bags, one fleece per bag. Fleeces must have been shorn in the last 12 months. Unskirted, dirty or inferior fleeces will be disqualified. Each fleece should be tagged with a 3” x 5” card folded in half. On the outside of the card, list: class, sheep breed (if known), sale price per pound (if fleece is for sale). The inside of the card should list exhibitor/seller’s name, address, phone number and email address if desired.

Fleeces may be brought to the exhibit hall between 7:00 – 9:00 pm Friday evening or 7:30 – 9:30 am on Saturday. At that time we will weigh your fleeces and enter any late entries. Judging will be done from 9:30 am– 1:00 pm on Saturday, with ribbons awarded to three places. Trophies will be awarded for the Grand Champion and Reserve
Champion fleeces. Please note that premiums will be paid on a point basis to Massachusetts residents only.

The sale will occur from 2:00 – 5:00 pm Saturday and 9:00 am – 3:00 pm Sunday. A member of the Committee will be in charge of the sale during that time. Fleeces will be removed from the sale upon purchase. We will make every effort to remove ribbons for producers as fleeces are sold. Fleeces not for sale must remain on display until Sunday at 3:00 pm. Any unsold fleeces must be picked up by the producer between 3:00 – 4:00 pm on Sunday. MSWF is not responsible for unclaimed fleeces. Checks will be mailed for the sale price as well as any premium money at a reasonable date after the fair. No fleeces are to be removed before the sale.
