Mass. Sheep and Woolcraft Fair

May 28th and 29th, 2005

Animal Health Regulations

All animals entered in fairs and shows will be examined prior to unloading at the exhibition for visual evidence of diseases including, but not limited to, footrot, soremouth, pinkeye, ringworm, and scrapie exposure. Evidence of these, or other infectious or contagious diseases, will result in the animal's rejection for entrance. The inspector's decision is final. No animals will be allowed entry from flocks that have exhibited or been vaccinated for soremouth in the last 60 days, or in which scrapie has been diagnosed or animals are under surveillance for scrapie for the past 18 months. All in-state and out-of-state cattle, sheep, goats, horses, swine, and poultry must be accompanied by a Health Certificate from the state of origin dated after Jan. 1, 2005. Prior entry permits not required for show purposes. Tests listed above shall be good for the entire showing season. While not required, strongly recommended that sheep be currently vaccinated against rabies.

NOTE

Based on the federal scrapie program which went into effect in Nov., 2001, ALL sheep and goats of any age or sex brought to show or exhibition from either out of state or within state must possess a USDA approved individual identification tag or tattoo. Information on approved tags and tattoos is available from: The USDA APHIS Office, Sutton, MA (508) 865-1421

Rabies

Dogs must have a valid rabies vaccination certificate, valid within one year when of out-of-state origin. It is strongly recommended that sheep be vaccinated for rabies within one year from the date of the show. Owner vaccination is acceptable as long as all pertinent information is recorded (vaccination date, vaccine name, serial number, and expiration date).
